Wow! I'm reading these comments and feeling a little jealous of the quite and ideal spaces people have to write in--actually, I also live in nature and I think my problem is not a question of space, but of time. I have two small children and one has special needs plus I work from home...so writing 'for myself' can be somewhat sporadic. Ideally, I set myself up on the veranda where I have a view of the garden, the mountains and where things are quiety. If the kids are home, I may escape out there with a pair of headphones and some music--usually nature sounds, piano or something non-vocal. It has occured to me that playing with the meter of a poem during these times, or writing a draft of a story, for me is a bit like when others wind down by playing games or doing other activities that relax. I used to wake up early to write, but now I enjoy ending my day that way as well...it's like an antidote to stress, daily life...

I had set up my writing desk near the window to connect myself with the outside world. I watch the lake for inspiration. Seeing the bright blue sky and lake gives a wake to my brain. One or two cup of coffee adds a bit more spice to my thoughts. I usually write in the morning hours. Some times I do write at night. I usually don't disturb the flow of my creativity and shut down to a particular time. I let it flow whenever it arises. I use my laptop to write mostly but sometime I do note down some bits and pieces in my mobile, which is handy. Usually, I prefer quiet place but if I didn't get such environment, I use headphones to shut the noise. At those time, I hear relaxing music. I made a playlist which contains instrumental music. I don't have specific genre to music. Anything and everything which is soothing works for me.

I find my inspiration in the morning hours. I go sit on my balcony, blossoming with plants and overlooking a lake, and I listen to all of the natural sounds around me; the fountain on the lake, the wind, the birds, the crickets, the cicadas... They inspire me. I enjoy nature so much so I spend a few hours while I have shade sitting on the balcony writing every morning. I take it all in, not just the sounds but the smells, the feelings of the air brushing my long hair, the sun slowly creeping in and tanning my feet; it’s all exquisite. I type my rough draft on my phone then I go inside and use my laptop for the final draft. That’s my morning routine!
